Emerson in the Community
The Annual School Supply Drive for the WISD Education Project
The Education Project serves over 600 children who are homeless or are in temporary housing situations, including foster care. The Drive provides brand new school supplies for kids every September. The Emerson community has been involved in this project since 2008.
Faculty and Staff In-Service Day
The staff used their first in-service day for a community cause, packaging food items at Food Gatherers.
In partnership with 164 non-profit agencies and programs in Washtenaw County, Food Gatherers collects and distributes 5 million pounds of food a year to our neediest neighbors.
Food Gatherers' Backpack Program
The Backpack Program provides backpacks of food for elementary school-aged children whose families often do not have adequate food supplies. The students take full backpacks home on Friday and return them empty to school on Monday where they are replenished by volunteers and made ready to go home again.
Blankets for UM Pediatric Patients
Cuddly and colorful blankets are on their way to the University of Michigan Cancer Center, thanks to Emerson's Girls on the Run program. Special appreciation goes to our 3rd - 5th grade blanket-makers for their community spirit and service.
