At the summit of the Emerson School journey, our 7th and 8th grade students thrive within a thoughtfully paced block schedule that optimizes learning and supports early adolescent development. As our students become more independent and responsible, the program shifts to one that promotes deeper learning, immersive experiences, and a pace that prepares them for the challenges after Emerson.
The Capstone experience also offers our students the chance to be role models and leaders throughout the school. Through taking on leadership roles on our Student Council, serving as Ambassadors at events, and captaining our Athletics programs, students get the real-world experience of being responsible for the direction of the programs they are a part of. Our students build on the legacy of those before them to launch their experience to new heights.
We appreciate the gradual increase of responsibility that comes with this age group of students, and our faculty design learning opportunities that promote this type of independence. Increased demands for written expression, mathematical understanding, scientific thinking, and world language acquisition are among the challenges posed to our students during these Capstone years—all done with the personalization and support that is a hallmark of the Emerson experience.
As students prepare to launch off to high school and beyond, the Capstone of the Emerson experience gives them the confidence, skills and motivation to continue on the journey of lifelong learning.
