At Emerson, athletics are a crucial component of a well-rounded education, contributing to the development of the whole child.Â
Our program isn’t just about competition; it’s about cultivating character, teamwork, and life skills that go beyond the playing field. Through sports, students learn resilience, discipline, and empathy while promoting physical fitness and mental well-being. These experiences equip our students to face challenges confidently and work effectively with others, laying a strong foundation for future success.
We encourage all students in grades 5-8 to participate in our athletics program, whether through competitive team sports or fun, fitness-focused intramurals.
Emerson School offers a diverse range of sports, providing students from 2nd to 8th grade with opportunities to participate in various athletic activities throughout the year.
The Emerson Cross Country Run Club is open to students in grades 1 through 4 who love to run and are interested in learning more about cross country. The season lasts 5 weeks and consists of about one practice and one race each week.
Lower School students often join Ann Arbor Rec & Ed sports through parent-driven, parent-coached teams. While registration and games are managed by Rec & Ed, practices are typically held at Emerson after school when space is available. Families interested in forming or coaching a team should contact their ESPO grade-level representative. Coaches must coordinate with Athletic Director, Jessica Hoag for facility use and with Carly Meloche for practice schedules, rosters, and cancellations.
The mission of Emerson School is to provide a dynamic and nurturing learning environment that fosters empathy, communication, creativity, leadership, and above all, a lifelong love of learning.
We fulfill our mission with small class sizes, by providing individualized attention across a broad and rich, student-centered curriculum and through a committed, talented team of educators who help children achieve sustained academic success.
