Athletics Program

At Emerson School, athletics are a crucial component of a well-rounded education, contributing to the development of the whole child. Our program isn’t just about competition; it’s about cultivating character, teamwork, and life skills that go beyond the playing field. Through sports, students learn resilience, discipline, and empathy while promoting physical fitness and mental well-being. These experiences equip our students to face challenges confidently and work effectively with others, laying a strong foundation for future success.

We encourage all students in grades 5-8 to participate in our athletics program, whether through competitive team sports or fun, fitness-focused intramurals. This inclusive approach allows every student to explore their interests, build strong peer connections, and develop a lifelong love of physical activity.

Emerson Teams through Ann Arbor Rec & Ed

Often Emerson lower school students participate in Ann Arbor Rec & Ed sports. These Emerson teams form based on interest and are parent-driven, parent-coached teams. All registration and games are scheduled through Ann Arbor Rec & Ed rather than through Emerson School; however, coaches typically hold practices after school at Emerson, when time and space allow.

All families interested in coaching, forming, or participating in a Rec & Ed Emerson team should contact the ESPO grade level representative or the ESPO Leadership. They will reach out to parents of the specific grade level to determine interest.

All Rec & Ed Emerson Coaches should do the following:

  • Communicate with Athletic Director, Jessica Hoag regarding the use of Emerson facilities.
  • Communicate with Director of After School and Auxiliary Programs Carly Meloche to provide practice schedule, roster, and any cancellation of practices.
